It is not enough to tell people what they want to hear in order to be a leader. Being a great leader is a worthy goal, but every leader should strive to be the best leader they can be. Telling people what they want to hear is often the least difficult path to take, but it is not always the best.
The true test for any leader is to make the best decisions for his or her organization, even if they are unpopular. Poor leaders frequently fail to address the true issues confronting their organization. They will tend to kick the can down the road, waiting for the right people to make the decisions that they are unable to make.
