I was recently browsing the https://greatsouthwest.ca/ website. This is the second Saskatchewan Tourism website I've found that barely mentions Gull Lake. The only thing you can find on the website for Gull Lake is where to get gas. This is not anyone's fault, but rather an indication that we need to re-evaluate our communities tourism potential and approach to attracting tourists.

This fiscal year, the government of Saskatchewan is spending $5 million to assist in the expansion of the province's tourism industry. Cypress Park's attractions and capacity have increased over the past few years. The Grasslands National Park is also attracting more visitors every year. The Great Sandhills also seems to be increasing in popularity. An antique train for short rail excursions will soon be operating in the town of Eastend, which is doing a great job of attracting tourists.

This year, I have noticed the town of Shaunavon has taken an active interest in the increasing attracting tourists to their community, and Gull Lake should consider doing the same. Aside from our recreation facilities, our town's location in Southwest Saskatchewan is an important selling point. Gull Lake is located in the heart of Southwest Saskatchewan, which is too large to explore in a single day. Our location makes Gull Lake the ideal destination for tourists doing day trips in Southwest Saskatchewan and for overnight stays for tourists.

I am the owner and operator of Campbell's Accommodations. I see the potential firsthand. People stay with us and visit the Sandhills, Eastend, Cypress Park, Grasslands Park, and Swift Current.  The tourism industry in Southwest Saskatchewan is much larger than you might think and Gull Lake should re-evaluate its tourism potential and its approach to attracting tourists. Attracting more tourists to Town would help the local economy and maybe even present us with other potential opportunities.

Every year, thousands of tourists pass by our community; all we need to do is give them a reason to stop.
