In Saskatchewan, the annual prohibition on elm tree pruning begins on April 1 and ends on August 31. This is to aid in the eradication of Dutch elm disease (DED). As the weather warms, the insects that spread DED become more active.
You may remove an elm tree during the ban period, but it is critical to properly dispose of any elm wood. Contact your local municipality to confirm the designated disposal place in your area.
