Key Highlights from the Gull Lake Town Council's Regular Meeting on January 22, 2025

The Gull Lake Town Council had its regular meeting on January 22, 2025, in the Town Council Chambers. Mayor Nasser Zanidean presided over the meeting, which was attended by Councillors Brandon Wessner, Steve Haithwaite, Terry Stevenson, Neal Boutin, and Administrator Dawnette Peterson. Councillors Tyson Migneault and Karen Turton were absent.


Delegations and Presentations:

  • Jenna Roosen and Steph Sells of the Gull Lake & District Kinette Club addressed the council at 7:00 p.m., followed by their departure at 7:15 p.m.


Staff Reports: Following the delegation, at 7:15 p.m.,


  • D. Vold, Waterplant Operator, delivered the December 2024 Water Report.

  • K. Cooke, Town Foreman, then presented his report.

  • L. Alliban, Economic Development Officer, also gave written reports for December 2024 and January 2025.


Council Deliberations: The council approved the minutes from the previous regular meeting held on January 8, 2025, and sanctioned accounts totaling $203,984.40 for cheque numbers #25036 to #25073, as well as payroll EFTs of $3,000.00.


Committee Updates: Council members provided updates from various committees:


  • Councillors Stevenson and Boutin provided an update on the South West Regional Water meeting conducted on January 15, 2025.

  • Mayor Zanidean provided thoughts from the Saskatchewan Health Authority meeting on January 16, 2025.

  • Councillor Wessner gave an update from the Tourism Committee meeting on January 13, 2025.


 Correspondence: The council went over various items of correspondence, including:


  • Reviewed the annual newsletter and minutes from the South West Transportation Planning Council. The council aims to provide a local perspective on transportation issues to the provincial government, prioritizing highways based on economic and social needs.

  • The 2025 Convention Agenda from the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association.

  • S/Sgt R. Blais of the RCMP provides the December 2024 Policing Report and the 2025 Priorities.


Key Decisions:


Gull Lake Transfer Station Lease Renewal: The council approved a renewal of the Gull Lake Transfer Station Lease from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2026, with a monthly subsidy of $2,300.00.


Chlorine Room Security Door Replacement: Odds 'N Ends' quote to replace the steel insulated security door for the Chlorine Room at the Waterplant at a cost of $2,368.44 plus taxes has been approved.


Commercial Discretionary Use Approval: Lots 8-10, Block 4, Plan Q2639 have been granted for commercial discretionary use.


Municipal Partnership Agreement: The agreement for a Municipal Partner in 2025 with Cypress Hills Grasslands Destination Area was approved at a cost of $2,724.00 including GST.


Financial Services Appointment: Innovation The Federal Credit Union was appointed to provide financial services to the Town of Gull Lake,
