Meet Brandon Wessner: A Town Councilor Candidate Committed to Accountability and Economic Growth

My name is Brandon Wessner I was born and raised in Swift Current, SK with past family ties to the Gull Lake area. My grandparents Verne and Sylvia Pleasance farmed south of Carmichael.

I graduated from Swift Current Comprehensive high school in 2010.

I worked in the oil and gas industry in the surrounding area for 9 years prior to relocating to Gull Lake in 2021 with long term goals and visions for the town.

I am married to my lovely wife Samantha Shackleton who has worked at the Autumn House for the last 10 years. She is currently resident manager/administrator. We have two wonderful children together, Kyrhen and Penelope (2 years old). Kyrhen is in grade 3 and is involved in hockey and lacrosse.

I currently work in Swift Current as a rental equipment technician and equipment delivery driver serving all areas of southwestern Saskatchewan.

I believe in being involved and contributing to your community in any manner possible, and volunteering is a big way to do so. I have passionately volunteered my time and resources to coaching youth lacrosse teams since 2009 in Swift Current along with serving on the executive board in a number of different roles, currently holding the Vice-president position. Bringing lacrosse to Gull Lake would be another source of revenue for our great recreation complex and it would benefit our youth to have the opportunity to enjoy another sport.

My love of volunteering goes back to my childhood and helping out with any group my siblings were involved with at the time, and participating in Scouts Canada also assisted me in understanding the value of helping in your community. I am running for council with no agenda of my own, I will be open, honest, fair and transparent. I will be accountable to the rate payers. If elected, I would work towards attracting new businesses to the area, in particular those that can offer employment opportunities to our younger people looking to join the workforce while still in school. Initiate community beautification projects, incentivize new home builds and attract more new families to move into this great little community that we call home while we maintain our small-town charm and relaxed pace. Gull lake is a wonderful town, but we need to keep moving forward before we get left in the rear-view mirror of potential economic opportunities and future residents that can keep Gull Lake prosperous.

A vote for me on November 13, 2024, is the first step in building a better tomorrow in Gull Lake.
