Recap of the Gull Lake Town Council Meeting: January 8, 2025

The regular meeting of the Gull Lake Town Council was held in the Town Council Chambers on January 8, 2025. The meeting was chaired by Mayor Nasser Zanidean, with Councillors Tyson Migneault, Karen Turton, Brandon Wessner, Steve Haithwaite, Terry Stevenson, Neal Boutin, and Administrator Dawnette Peterson in attendance.


Reports and Updates

The meeting opened with a phone-in presentation by Economic Development Officer L. Alliban, who detailed the Economic Action Plan for 2025. An Economic Action Plan acts as a strategic guide for a community's economic growth and development in the upcoming year. Additionally, a report on bylaw enforcement for December 2024 was presented and acknowledged.


Minutes and Financial Approvals 

The minutes from the meeting on December 30, 2024, were approved. The key financial decisions included the approval of payments totaling to $41,994.63 for cheques #25008 to #25035 and $31,827.42 for Education Property Tax EFT.


Library and Membership Updates 

Councillor Haithwaite provided an update from the meeting of the Chinook Regional Library - Gull Lake Branch that took place on January 2, 2025. The council also reviewed correspondence from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities concerning membership for 2025.


Key Decisions:

  • Approved New Business Items:

    • Counteroffer to Dynamic Disposal for a lease renewal.

    • Hosting of a Chlorine Gas Safety Workshop.

    • Ratification of the Waterworks Quality Assurance/Quality Control Policy and Waterworks Emergency Response Plan.

    • Acquiring an H2S monitor.


  • Funding Grant:

    • Approved a $2,950 grant for the Chinook Regional Library - Gull Lake Branch to support 50% of its operating costs for 2025.


  • Municipal Revenue Sharing Grant:

    • Confirmed that the municipality meets the eligibility requirements for the grant.


  • Approval for Shared Administrative Contract at Autumn House:

    • Councillor Wessner declared a conflict of interest and temporarily exited the meeting during the discussion.

    • The council approved a 25% share of a six-month administrative contract position for the facility.

    • Councillor Wessner re-entered the meeting after the discussion.

    • The facility is looking for a Part-Time Director of Development to manage grants, social media, fundraising, promotion, networking, outreach, and volunteer recruitment.


Schedule and Adjournment of the Meeting 

The council has officially approved the schedule for regular meetings in 2025 and concluded the session at 8:35 p.m.
