The Government of Saskatchewan has announced a $10 million investment to make personal care homes more affordable for seniors, marking a significant milestone in senior support programs.

Starting this month, the Personal Care Home Benefit will increase by up to $1,000 per month, easing the financial burden for over 2,000 seniors living in licensed facilities across the province. Social Services Minister Terry Jenson highlighted the importance of this initiative, noting it is the largest increase in the program's history and the third consecutive year of enhancements to the benefit.

Additionally, individuals receiving Saskatchewan Assured Income for Disability (SAID) level-of-care benefits for personal care homes will see an increase of $120 per month, further supporting those in need.

This development could bring notable benefits to Gull Lake Autumn House Independent Living Facility, making costs more manageable for some seniors who qualify. The expanded Personal Care Home Benefit also provides reassurance for others in the community who are considering a move into a personal care home. With increased financial accessibility, the transition becomes less daunting, opening doors to safe and supportive living environments.

Since its inception in 2012, the Personal Care Home Benefit has significantly evolved, with the monthly income threshold rising from $1,800 to $3,500. The program subsidizes individuals based on the difference between their total monthly income and the threshold, ensuring financial support for those facing challenges in licensed care.

This investment highlights the government’s commitment to improving affordability for seniors and strengthening communities across Saskatchewan.
