Understanding Your Role: Municipal Governance 101 Webinar for Potential Town Council Candidates

Exterior of the Gull Lake, SK Town Office.

Municipal elections will take place on November 13. Are you considering running for town council? It's an excellent way to contribute to your community. I spent several years on town council, and here are some things to consider if you want to run for council.

Sitting on town council is both an educational experience and a time commitment. Terms last four years, during which time you must attend council and committee meetings. Sitting on Town Council entails more than simply levying taxes, enacting bylaws, and making infrastructure choices.

Being aware of your role and responsibilities as a council member will significantly facilitate your decision-making process during your term on the council. Educational opportunities are readily accessible to assist you in acquiring the necessary skills to manage your municipality. There is a wealth of knowledge to be gained. While a brochure is available for potential councillors to gain a quick overview of their roles and responsibilities, attending the Municipal Governance 101 webinar is a better option. It will provide you a far better overview and give you a chance to ask questions. There will be a webinar on September 11th from 6:30 p.m.to 8:30 p.m.
