My name is Nasser Zanidean and I am running for mayor. I believe our town deserves confident leadership, fresh ideas, honesty, accountability, equitable for all, transparency and my promise to work towards a brighter future.
As a lifelong resident of the Town of Gull Lake, I have had the privilege to experience the growth and I have seen the challenges we have faced in the past and will be ready to face in the future. I believe Gull Lake has incredible potential waiting to be unlocked. If elected mayor, I will prioritize the needs of the community and will focus on serving the towns best interest not only at election time but for the duration of my term and years to come.
Being apart of this great community for the last 48 years, my wife Wafaa and I have had the privilege of raising our two children here in Gull Lake. Adam graduated high school in Gull Lake and is currently attending post-secondary education in Moose Jaw. Being apart of this great community has allowed him to participate in Lions football, Greyhound hockey and baseball. Mazin is currently in Grade 8 and is heavily involved in Gull Lake sports.
I am truly committed to this community and giving back has always been a large part of who I am and I believe that true leadership comes from understanding and working directly with the people you aim to represent. I have dedicated countless hours to the town of Gull Lake and for the past six years I have been fortunate enough to be able to help to be apart of the coaching staff with the Gull Lake Lions.
I have also coached minor football as well. Growing up in Gull Lake, I was lucky enough to have amazing coaches and community members help mold me into the person I am today. I am very grateful to have had that opportunity and want to return the favour. Coaching baseball and hockey, maintaining the football field and volunteering on many committees, are a few ways I like to give back. Being an Elk member for the past 15 years, has given me multiple opportunities to support and contribute to my community.
As a councillor for the last four years, there has been improvements to our infrastructure but there is always room for growth. My mission is to see Gull Lake grow, and prosper with more families moving into Gull Lake adding to the school population. To make Gull Lake more attractive, we need to establish new businesses. This will create job opportunities, therefore growth. We need to focus on the great things that Gull Lake already offers and build on them. Green spaces provide numerous benefits to towns and their residents. By emphasizing the advantages of improving and maintaining our green spaces, it will highlight my commitment to improving physical and mental health, social interactions and improving the overall quality of life here in Gull Lake.
I will work tirelessly to ensure that municipal government is transparent, efficient and accountable to you, the voters. I pride myself on being honest and clear and straight forward. I believe in open communication, proper procedures and policies. I also believe in collaborative leadership, it is not about one person making a change it is about everyone working together whether that is in a regional program or reaching out to our neighbouring municipalities.
Most importantly I am running to be a mayor with integrity but first of all I want to be a leader that listens. I do not claim to have all the answers but I do promise to listen to your concerns and address them to the best of my ability. I want you to feel that your voice matters and your concerns are being heard. I promise to work with our community, and elected councillors to make decisions that benefit that whole town and not just a select few. I believe in a future where our town thrives through unity, community involvement and support. We all need to work together to solve problems and make lasting changes. We need to ensure the sustainability of our wonderful community. Please join me on November 13, 2024 to help make the Town of Gull Lake the best ever.
