Gull Lake's Local Chamber of Commerce disbanded many years ago, but it may be time to reconsider reviving it. Local business owners all have a vested interest in the town and its economy, and a strong Chamber of Commerce would assist bringing them together to focus on opportunities that could help improve the local economy.

When there is no Chamber of Commerce or other similar organization, businesses are sometimes left to fend for themselves, making it more difficult for their concerns or advise to be heard. But, there is strength in numbers, and a Chamber of Commerce would provide businesses a strong voice. A strong Chamber would serve an important role in advancing concerns, ideas, support, and recommendations on matters affecting our community.

Two heads are better than one, and a Chamber of Commerce would aid in providing a networking environment for businesses to gather and brainstorm ideas. A motel or guesthouse, for example, relies on restaurants, grocery stores, movie theatres, convenience stores, and gas stations to offer goods and services to its guests. A Chamber would serve to improve existing business relationships and provide a platform for businesses to collaborate to develop opportunities to help increase business.

Additional advantages of establishing a Chamber of Commerce include business promotion, shop local and community promotions, and the ability for employers who wish to provide benefits to their employees.

The community is currently working on a strategic plan, and the ideas and recommendations that a united business community could contribute could substantially aid in the plan's success. It may be time for the local business community to explore restarting a Chamber of Commerce.
