Enjoy Live music with Saskatchewan Artist Belle Plaine at the Gull Lake Lyceum Theatre:
There’s a feeling on the Prairies in winter, looking out the window of your house or truck and watching the brightest of winter sunshine bounce across the snowy white fields. It’s contemplative, and feels like an AM radio in the 70s if you can ignore the 21st century happening around you. Regina singer-songwriter Belle Plaine (Melanie Berglund) sees the world she lives in as it is, and adds layers of tenderness and mercy through her evocative, plaintive, and soulful vocal style.
Musically weaving a deep compassion for the characters in her songs with a charismatic presence is a fine line to walk. Belle Plaine does it deftly, shining with warmth from the stage while her subtle wit can pull a chuckle out of the toughest of farmers and truck drivers. Her easy charm shines bright whether she’s on her own or backed by her ace band, like sitting down for a cup of coffee and a round of crib with the sassiest of friends, while the most sophisticated of classic barroom country music cuts through the laughter.
It’s the trickiest move in country music, creating stories that not only validate the experiences of the people who hear it, but also gently nudge it in a direction that shows a greater possibility. It can only be done with grace, dignity, and genuine homespun charm. It’s a quality that Belle Plaine embodies naturally, whether in song or conversation, radiating a compassion and tenderness that’d melt the deepest Prairie cold.
The event will be held WEDNESDAY, APRIL 26, 2023 AT 7 PM. Doors open at 7PM - Music at 7:30PM
